SMW3 Repair Expected to cause Degraded Internet Across Pakistan

Because of the SMW3 submarine cable repair, I’d bet that the ITI Connectivity is going to cause major degradation of Internet services. TWA1 seems like a God-send.

At least Nayatel customers won’t face this degradation as they will be using the TWA1 submarine cable to connect to the internet!.

Dear Valued Customer !

As intimated by our SMW-3 Cable System, planned maintenance activity has been scheduled by SMW-3 consortium for Segment S-4.1 (Singapore – Indonesia) to repair sea cable shunt fault near Medan (Indonesia) Cable Station.

Details of the maintenance activity are attached

We highly regret any inconvenience that might be caused.

In case of any query, don’t hesitate to contact our 24*7 NOC.

UFONE Blackberry Commercial Launch Delayed!

Since I already use Mobilink’s Blackberry service, a viable alternative was always welcome. Ufone, Pakistan’s second largest GSM carrier completed the deployment and testing of Research In Motion‘s Blackberry service some time ago.

However, the country’s security agencies have not given clearance to the Ufone Blackberry because reportedly because of their system’s failure to tap into the RIM products encryption.

So next time you recieve email on your Mobilink Blackberry, just remember that Big Brother is watching 🙂

It’s been a while since I touched Eliptical Curve Cryptography as well as the Cipher Block Chaining Stuff … not to mention the quest for getting the Initialization Vectors!

Update: As of January 6, 2008, UFone has still not launched its Blackberry service
